CHICAGO, June 22 (UPI) -- Paul Konerko homered for a fifth straight game Tuesday in the Chicago White Sox 3-2 win over the cross-town rival Chicago Cubs.
Konerko connected for his 21st home run of the season with the bases empty in the second inning off Cubs starter Matt Garza to give the Sox an early 1-0 lead and get them on their way to their third win in their last four games and eighth victory in the last 11 games against the Cubs at U.S. Cellular Field.
Brent Morel drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
Jesse Crain (3-2) was tagged with a blown save but came away with the win. He did not give up a hit in 1 2/3 innings but he did allow one of the two runners he inherited to score after a 1 hour, 44 minute rain delay.
The delay brought a premature end to Mark Buehrle's attempt to win his 11th interleague start. He is 10-0 against National League opponents.
Carlos Pena had a home run for the Cubs. Jeff Samardzija (5-3) was charged with the loss after giving up one run on two hits in two innings of relief.
