OMAHA, June 22 (UPI) -- Colby Holmes and John Taylor combined for 8 2/3 innings of one-run ball Tuesday, lifting South Carolina to a 7-1 win over Virginia in the College World Series.

Holmes went 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits while fanning seven, and Taylor picked up the victory with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Gamecocks.

Adrian Morales went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Christian Walker added a double, single and a run batted in for South Carolina, which waited out an hourlong rain delay to log the victory.

The Gamecocks advanced to play the winner of Thursday's elimination game between Virginia and California.

Will Roberts was lit up for six runs (three earned) on eight hits in a 3 1/3-inning start for the Cavaliers.
