MLB: Detroit 9, Colorado 1

DENVER, June 19 (UPI) -- Justin Verlander hurled a four-hit complete game and Brennan Boesch went 3-for-4 with a homer Sunday, boosting the Detroit Tigers to a 9-1 win over Colorado.

Verlander (9-3) tied for the major league lead in wins with nine thanks to his 110-pitch gem after flirting with a no-hitter in his previous start Tuesday against Cleveland.

The Tigers ace limited the Rockies to one run, didn't issue a walk and struck out five in racking up his career-best fifth straight win as Detroit salvaged one win in their three-game interleague series at Colorado.

Boesch scored three times as well as socking a solo homer in the ninth, while Alex Avila added two hits and a pair of RBI to key Detroit's 13-hit attack.

Colorado's Aaron Cook (0-2) was touched for four runs on eight hits over six frames, absorbing the defeat.

Ty Wigginton supplied the Rockies' only offense with a solo homer.
