Team members traveled a route from the TD Garden arena, past City Hall to Copley Plaza in a series of 18 amphibious Duck Boats as throngs of black-and-gold-wearing fans celebrated the Bruins' first NHL championship in 39 years.

Boston Police spokesman Officer James Kenneally told The Boston Globe the crowd "was well-behaved and there were minimal arrests."

Defenseman Zdeno Chara held the Stanley Cup aloft and goalie Tim Thomas showed off his Conn Smythe trophy -- awarded to him as the most valuable player for the playoffs -- as the team passed down Staniford Street, the newspaper said.

Bruins players addressed a rally at TD Garden before the parade. Player Mark Recchi told the crowd, "We played together, we drank together, we lost together, and we never wavered. But the one thing we really did together: We won."

Red Sox place Crawford on disabled list

BOSTON, June 18 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox said Saturday they have placed left fielder Carl Crawford on the disabled list with a hamstring strain.

Crawford was diagnosed with the injury after leaving Friday's 10-4 Boston win over Milwaukee following an infield hit in the first inning.

"The medical people thought at best that it was going to be 10-to-14 days," Red Sox Manager Terry Francona told The Boston Globe. "So that was kind of a no-brainer."

The Red Sox recalled outfielder Josh Reddick from Class AAA Pawtucket to replace Crawford on the roster.

The injuries aren't life threatening, but Wolf Pack head Coach Chris Ault said the standout wide receiver sustained severe internal damage and is unlikely to play football again.

Police said they were seeking the shooter in the incident.

"Brandon is very fortunate. ... It's an extensive injury. Another centimeter and the doctor said he might not have made it to the hospital," Ault said.

Wimberly was on track to graduate early and had received permission to take extra summer school classes.

"He is probably the most liked player on our team," Ault told the Gazette-Journal. "It's unfortunate that it happened the way it did. And you see things like this and the next thing you know it's too late."

Wimberly posted 41 receptions for 482 yards in 2010, with 94 catches for 1,215 yards and six touchdowns in his collegiate career.
