CHICAGO, June 18 (UPI) -- Eduardo Nunez scored the go-ahead run and added a ninth-inning RBI Saturday, helping the New York Yankees edge the Chicago Cubs 4-3 in an interleague game.
Nunez, playing in place of the injured Derek Jeter, led off the sixth inning with a single, advanced to second on A.J. Burnett's sacrifice, to third on Brett Gardner's single and scored on a Curtis Granderson sacrifice fly, breaking a 2-2 tie.
His RBI double in the ninth gave the Yankees an insurance run they'd need when Chicago's Reed Johnson socked a solo homer off closer Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the frame.
Burnett (7-5) earned the victory, allowing three runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings despite allowing six walks. The Yankees' infield aided him by turning three double plays.
Rivera held on to notch his 17th save as New York evened its three-game series at Wrigley Field.
Ryan Dempster (5-6) absorbed the loss, surrendering three runs on eight hits in a 5 1/3-inning start.
Carlos Pena blasted a two-run homer for the Cubs.
