CHICAGO, June 17 (UPI) -- Doug Davis allowed three hits over 7 1/3 innings Friday in helping the Chicago Cubs to a 3-1 interleague victory over the New York Yankees.
Davis (1-5) walked three and struck out four. He gave up singles to Robinson Cano in the fourth inning and Eduardo Nunez in the fifth. Davis was pulled after Nick Swisher hit a one-out single in the eighth.
He was replaced by Sean Marshall, who got an out before Mark Teixeira singled to center and got Swisher home to make the score 3-1.
Carlos Marmol came in and got the final four outs -- three on strikeouts -- although he also walked one and allowed a hit in the ninth to make it interesting. He still picked up his 14th save.
The Cubs had two runs after just four batters in the first off Yankees starter Freddy Garcia (5-6). Kosuke Fukudome walked to open the inning and Starlin Castro delivered a run-scoring double. After an out, Aramis Ramirez singled to right, allowing Castro to score.
Chicago made it 3-0 in the third with Ramirez again driving in Castro, who led off with a double.
Garcia was charged with the three runs on six hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out three.
