PITTSBURGH, June 16 (UPI) -- A 44-year-old man has been charged with assault and other offenses for a road rage incident involving the family of Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Chris Snyder.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says Subhash Modwadia of Scott confronted Snyder's wife Carla and attempted to hit her after their car nearly collided with his scooter near a gas station on Banksville Road Wednesday afternoon.

Modwadia allegedly ripped the driver's side mirror off the Snyders' vehicle, a police report said, and bit the left forearm of a Good Samaritan who tackled him. He also is accused of tossing a shoe at an off-duty Pittsburgh officer who subdued him.

Modwadia was charged with aggravated assault, assault, criminal mischief and driving with an invalid license, and held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Snyder reportedly did not get out of the passenger seat of his vehicle during the incident. His two small children were in the back seat. He is on the disabled list after surgery last week to repair a herniated disc in his back.
