MLB: Atlanta 9, N.Y. Mets 8 (10 inn.)

ATLANTA, June 16 (UPI) -- Diory Hernandez completed an Atlanta rally by scoring on a D.J. Carrasco balk in the 10th inning Thursday, giving the Braves a 9-8 win over the New York Mets.

The Mets owned an 8-6 lead heading into the ninth, but Brooks Conrad tied it with a two-run homer off closer Francisco Rodriguez and the Braves won it in the 10th in strange fashion.

Carrasco, who was called up from Class AAA Buffalo last week, came out to start the 10th and promptly walked Eric Hinske. Alex Gonzalez then grounded into a double play, but Hernandez doubled on the first pitch he saw and moved to third on an infield single by Jordan Schafer.

That brought up Jason Heyward and he had an 0-1 count when Carrasco (0-2) was called for the balk that allowed the winning run to score. Atlanta snapped a three-game skid.

New York overcame a 6-2 deficit with a four-run fifth that included a three-run homer by Scott Hairston and the Mets took a 7-6 lead in the seventh on a bases-loaded wild pitch.

Chipper Jones delivered a three-run homer in the third that helped Atlanta build its early advantage.

Scott Linebrink (3-1) worked around a two-out single in the top of the 10th to get the win.
