WASHINGTON, June 15 (UPI) -- Livan Hernandez threw a three-hit shutout Wednesday, Michael Morse homered twice and Washington won its fifth in a row with a 10-0 pasting of St. Louis.
It is the longest winning streak of the year for the Nationals, who pounded out 15 hits.
Hernandez (4-8) won for the first time since April 28. He struck out six and did not walk a batter in what was the ninth shutout of his 16-year career.
Ryan Theriot came up with the first St. Louis hit on a lead-off single in the fourth, but he was promptly caught stealing.
The only other player to reach base against Hernandez was Jon Jay, who had a two-out double in the fifth and a one-out, infield single in the eighth.
Morse opened the scoring with a solo homer in the second and added a two-run shot in the seventh. He has 12 home runs for the season. Morse also scored on a single by Ivan Rodriguez during a three-run fourth.
Kyle McClellan (6-3) took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits in five innings.
