HOUSTON, June 15 (UPI) -- Jeff Karstens and five Pittsburgh relievers combined on a four-hit shutout Tuesday and the Pirates edged Houston 1-0.

Karstens (4-4) tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits with no walks while striking out three before being pulled after throwing 88 pitches.

Chris Resop, Tony Watson, Tim Wodd and Jose Veras teamed up for four outs and Joel Hanrahan notched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 18th save as the Pirates broke a nine-game losing streak in Houston.

Garrett Jones drove in the game's only run with a second-inning single.

Bud Norris (4-6) took the hard-luck loss for the Astros, who fell to a major-league worst 25-43. The right-hander held Pittsburgh to just the one run on six hits over seven frames.
