Chris Resop, Tony Watson, Tim Wodd and Jose Veras teamed up for four outs and Joel Hanrahan notched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 18th save as the Pirates broke a nine-game losing streak in Houston.
Garrett Jones drove in the game's only run with a second-inning single.
