Kuznetsova rallies for UNICEF Open win

'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 15 (UPI) -- Svetlana Kuznetsova came from behind in taking a second-round win Wednesday at the UNICEF Open tennis tournament in the Netherlands.

Kuznetsova, seeded second in the event, got past Sara Errani 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. She was down a break in the second set before rallying for the win. Kuznetsova pounded out 12 aces, all but one in the second and third sets.

She dropped serve five times with three coming in the first set but she had a pair of breaks in each of the last two sets and didn't face a break point in the third set.

Kuznetsova will face fifth-seeded Daniela Cibulkova in the quarterfinals Thursday. Cibulkova roared past Kristina Barrois 6-0, 6-1 in 57 minutes. Cibulkova won 69 percent of the points in the match.

Jelena Dokic defeated fourth-seeded Flavia Pennetta -- the last seeded player in the top half of the draw -- 6-3, 6-4 by cashing in four of her seven break-point chances.

Also Wednesday, No. 3-seeded Yanina Wickmayer just got past Arantxa Parra Santonja 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (6-7), 7-5; seventh-seeded Roberta Vinci dumped Alexandra Dulgheru 6-2, 6-1; and Johanna Larsson defeated Kirsten Flipkens 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

In addition to the Kuznetsova-Cibulkova match Thursday, the quarterfinals have Wickmayer taking on Vinci while Dokic plays Larson and Romina Operandi goes against Kimiko Date-Krumm.
