Button passes Vettel on last lap for win

MONTREAL, June 12 (UPI) -- Jenson Button's dramatic, last-lap pass of Sebastian Vettel earned him a victory Sunday in the Formula 1 Grand Prix Du Canada.

Button survived a drive-through penalty for speeding behind the safety car and a collision with teammate Lewis Hamilton to edge out the world champion and current points leader by 2.7 seconds.

Button grabbed the lead when Vettel slid a bit wide on the final lap. He charged through the opening and on to the checkered flag, claiming his first win of the season and 10th of his F1 career.

Rain marked the start of the event and made for a very slippery track in Montreal.

Mark Webber of Red Bull finished third, Mercedes' Michael Schumacher held the fourth spot and Renault's Vitaly Petrov came in fifth.

Button jumped from fourth place to second in the championship standings thanks to the win, 60 points behind Vettel after seven races.
