CHICAGO, June 11 (UPI) -- Scott Sizemore's three-run double with two out in the ninth Friday rallied Oakland to a 7-5 win over the Chicago White Sox, ending the A's 10-game skid.
Oakland scored four times in the ninth to halt a losing streak that cost Manager Bob Geren his job. Bob Melvin took over as interim manager Thursday and lost his debut.
Melvin appeared headed for another setback Friday when the ninth inning began with the White Sox owning a 5-3 lead. A Chicago victory seemed even more likely after Sergio Santos (2-3) retired the first two batters in the ninth.
Josh Willingham started the rally with a walk, took second on fielder's indifference and scored on a single by Hideki Matsui. Daric Barton followed with a walk and Santos hit Kurt Suzuki with a pitch to load the bases.
That brought up Sizemore, whose double to left cleared the bases and put Oakland in front.
Andrew Bailey quickly retired the side in the bottom of the ninth for his first save of the year after piling up 51 of them during the previous two seasons.
The win went to Grant Balfour (4-1), who worked a perfect eighth inning.
