
TORONTO, June 11 (UPI) -- Jason Varitek and David Ortiz each blasted three-run homers Saturday and the Boston Red Sox won their eighth straight with a 16-4 rout of Toronto.
Varitek added a run-scoring single for four RBI and Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in for the first-place Red Sox, who pounded out 18 hits and clinched their three-game set against the Blue Jays.
Jacoby Ellsbury and J.D. Drew each contributed two hits and an RBI for Boston, which retained a one-game lead over the New York Yankees atop the American League East with the win.
John Lackey (4-5) earned the victory after allowing four runs on six hits over six innings, walking two and striking out eight.
Brandon Morrow (2-4), meanwhile, saw his personal winless streak stretch to five. The Toronto right-hander was rocked for nine runs on 10 hits before exiting after 4 1/3 innings.
Edwin Encarnacion belted a two-run homer for the Blue Jays.
