PHILADELPHIA, June 10 (UPI) -- Placido Polanco's grand slam homer gave Philadelphia a seven-run lead Friday and the Phillies survived a late comeback bid to down the Chicago Cubs 7-5.
Roy Halladay (9-3) worked seven scoreless innings and picked up the 100th home victory of his career. He allowed six hits and struck out nine.
Domonic Brown's two-run homer in the second put the Phillies in front 3-0 and that was the way it stayed until Philadelphia broke things open in the seventh. Polanco's homer came on a 2-0 pitch from Carlos Zambrano (5-3) after Zambrano had walked the bases loaded.
The Cubs came up with five runs in the eighth inning, which featured two-run singles by Aramis Ramirez and Lou Montanez.
With nobody on base, Antonio Bastardo came out of the bullpen with two out in the ninth and needed just three pitches to collect his second save.
Chicago had won its previous two games, including an 11-inning decision over the Phillies Thursday.
