PHILADELPHIA, June 10 (UPI) -- Tyler Colvin scored on a throwing error by third baseman Placido Polanco in the 11th inning Thursday, giving the Chicago Cubs a 4-3 win over Philadelphia.
The Cubs fell behind early on a three-run homer by Jimmy Rollins but they chipped away in the late innings and finally tied it in the ninth on a solo shot from Geovany Soto.
Both sides wasted a scoring chance in the 10th, with the Cubs stranding two men and the Phillies leaving the bases loaded.
Chicago then produced an unearned run in the 11th, which began with Colvin reaching on an infield single against David Herndon (0-1). Colvin moved to second on a passed ball, but he was still there after both Ryan Dempster and Kosuke Fukudome struck out.
Darwin Barney then hit a grounder to Polanco at third but instead of ending the inning Polanco allowed the go-ahead run to score with a bad throw to first.
Sean Marshall (3-0) got the win by working the ninth and 10th innings. Carlos Marmol allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the 11th, but that runner never advanced while the Phillies were producing three fly ball outs.
It was Marmol's 12th save.
