MLB: New York Mets 4, Milwaukee 1

MILWAUKEE, June 9 (UPI) -- Jonathon Niese struck out eight over 7 2/3 innings Thursday and gave up three hits while helping the New York Mets slow down Milwaukee 4-1.

New York won twice in three games against a team that had captured 13 out of 16 coming into the series.

Niese (5-5) allowed a run and walked four while throwing 99 pitches. Francisco Rodriguez worked the final 1 1/3 innings for his 18th save.

The Mets scored all their runs during the first five innings off Yovani Gallardo (8-3), who had won each of his last six starts. His last loss had come May 2.

Ruben Tejada singled in a New York run in the second, Jason Pridie had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and the Mets came up with RBI singles in the fifth from Daniel Murphy and Angel Pagan.
