DETROIT, June 9 (UPI) -- Justin Verlander struck out 10 over eight innings Thursday and continued his outstanding season by carrying the Detroit Tigers to a 4-1 victory over Seattle.

Verlander (7-3) allowed one run on five hits with one walk and helped bring the Tigers their ninth win in 11 games.

Detroit scored all its runs in the fifth off Doug Fister (3-7). Alex Avila tripled in the first run of the inning and scored on a single by Don Kelly. Brennan Boesch brought home Kelly with his eighth home run of the season.

Verlander has not lost since April 27, when he fell to 2-3 in a setback to the Mariners. Since then he has thrown a no-hitter and has had five outings in which he has allowed two runs or fewer.

Jose Valverde walked a batter and struck out another during the ninth for his 16th save.

The only Seattle run scored in the fifth on a Verlander wild pitch, his third of the season in 102 innings of work.
