PITTSBURGH, June 9 (UPI) -- Chris Young broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the eighth inning Thursday, lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 2-0 victory over Pittsburgh.
The Diamondbacks snapped a three-game losing streak that came after they had won 10 out of 12.
Pittsburgh starter Jeff Karstens allowed four hits over seven innings before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh. Chris Resop came on for the Pirates in the eighth and gave up an infield single to relief pitcher Micah Owings before Young hit a 2-0 pitch over the wall in left for his 12th homer.
The Pirates had won their last two contests.
Four Arizona pitchers combined on the shutout, beginning with Josh Collmenter, who went five innings, giving up four hits and striking out four.
Owings (2-0) got the win with a 2 1/3-inning effort. David Hernandez came on in the ninth and collected his second save.
Hernandez filled in for regular Arizona closer J.J. Putz, who had appeared in the two prior games.
