NEW YORK, June 8 (UPI) -- David Ortiz hit his second two-run homer in as many games Wednesday, highlighting a three-run first that sent Boston to an 11-6 win over the New York Yankees.

The Red Sox won their fifth in a row, defeated the Yankees for the sixth straight time and moved a game in front of New York at the top of the American League East.

Boston has won its first five games of the year in New York, something the Red Sox had not done since 1912, when the New York team was known as the Highlanders and played at Hilltop Park.

The Red Sox scored the first seven runs of the game, but eventually saw their lead trimmed to 8-5. Boston then got homers from Carl Crawford and J.D. Drew while scoring three times in the ninth.

Tim Wakefield (3-1) collected the win despite giving up five runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Alfredo Aceves worked the final 3 2/3 innings for his first save.

Boston roughed up A.J. Burnett (6-4) for seven earned runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

New York's Derek Jeter had an RBI double in the fifth, moving him within 11 hits of 3,000 for his career.
