CHICAGO, June 6 (UPI) -- John Danks won his first game Monday after starting the season with an 0-8 record, boosting the Chicago White Sox to a 3-1 victory over Seattle.
The left-hander's slow start had made him only the third pitcher in White Sox history to begin the year with eight straight losses -- the first since Eddie Smith in 1942.
Danks (1-8) broke the spell Monday, holding the Mariners to one unearned run on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out six as the White Sox won the first of a three-run series against Seattle.
Sergio Santos notched his 11th save with a 1-2-3 ninth and A.J. Pierzynski had two hits and one RBI.
Michael Pineda (6-3) was tagged with his first loss since May 4 for Seattle, letting in two runs on five hits in a seven-inning effort.
Brandon Ryan got the Mariners' only RBI.
