Ill. native Allgaier wins Chicagoland race

JOLIET, Ill., June 4 (UPI) -- Illinois driver Justin Allgaier had just enough fuel to hang on for a dramatic victory Saturday in a Nationwide Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.

Allgaier, a native of Riverton, took the lead of the STP 300 on the backstretch of the final lap when Carl Edwards ran out of fuel. Allgaier also ran dry coming out of turn four, but was still able to coast home for the win.

The victory was the second in Allgaier's Nationwide career. His first came in March 2010 at Bristol, Tenn.

Edwards came in second and Roush Fenway Racing teammate Trevor Bayne grabbed third place in a career-best finish.

Pole-sitter Aric Almirola settled for fourth place and Jason Leffler ended in fifth.
