KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 3 (UPI) -- Carl Pavano pitched a complete game and won for the 100th time in his career Friday to carry the Minnesota Twins past Kansas City 5-2.

Pavano reached the milestone in his 13th major league season. It was his 15th career complete game and eighth shutout. He had not gone the distance since last July.

Kansas City managed nine hits against Pavano, but he retired 14 of the last 15 men he faced while throwing 112 pitches.

Denard Span put Minnesota in front with a two-run double in the second and Michael Cuddyer hit a solo homer in the third.

After Kansas City cut its deficit to one in the fourth, Drew Butera accounted for the final two Minnesota runs with an RBI double in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Minnesota has won two in a row after losing four straight.

The loss went to Danny Duffy (0-1), who gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings in his fourth major league start.
