KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 1 (UPI) -- Billy Butler hit a disputed two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday, handing the Kansas City Royals a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

After a scoreless 8 1/2 innings for both teams, the Royals finally broke through in the ninth but it wasn't without a controversy.

Jeff Francoeur stroked a one-out single off Scott Downs (3-2) and Butler then cracked a long fly to center field that appeared to bounce off the top of the padded fence and back onto the field. Butler was initially awarded a double and Francoeur was stopped at third, but the umpires changed their ruling to a game-winning home run after a video review, prompting an argument from Angels Manager Mike Scioscia.

Tim Collins (3-2) was credited with the win after 1 1/3 frames of scoreless relief as Kansas City took the rubber match of a three-game series with the Angels.

Felipe Paulino, whom the Royals acquired from Colorado last month, made his first start of the season and blanked the Angels on four hits over five innings.

Los Angeles starter Tyler Chatwood hurled 7 2/3 scoreless innings, yielding five hits and two walks while striking out two.
