ST. LOUIS, May 31 (UPI) -- Skip Schumaker's run-scoring single capped a furious eighth-inning rally Tuesday that carried the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over San Francisco.
Trailing 3-1 entering the eighth, the Cards banged out five hits and scored three times to stun the Giants and pull out a victory in the second contest of a four-game series.
John Jay and Albert Pujols led off the big inning with back-to-back doubles off Sergio Romo. Javier Lopez (2-1) entered the game and surrendered another RBI double to Allen Craig, tying the score 3-3.
Craig went to third on a groundout and, after Yadier Molina was intentionally walked, Schumaker hit a ground single to deep second, plating Craig with the go-ahead run.
Ryan Franklin (1-3) picked up the victory with a scoreless eighth and Fernando Salas racked up his 10th save for the National League Central-leading Cards.
Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong held St. Louis to one run on six hits in a five-inning effort.
Cody Ross provided two hits and an RBI for San Francisco.
