TORONTO, May 30 (UPI) -- Jo-Jo Reyes avoided a dubious record by notching his first win in 29 starts Monday and the Toronto Blue Jays pounded Cleveland 11-1.
Reyes (1-4) tossed a complete-game eight-hitter, shutting the Indians down on one run, walking four and striking out four to record his first victory as a starter since June 13, 2008, when he was a member of the Atlanta Braves.
In his last outing, he tied Oakland's Matt Keough (1978-79) and the Boston Braves' Cliff Curtis (1910-11) as the only other pitchers to start 28 consecutive games without a win.
The left-hander got plenty of support, including a two-run homer from Jayson Nix and three hits to go with two RBI from Rajai Davis. Jose Bautista and Corey Patterson drove in a pair of runs apiece as Toronto won its fourth straight to begin a three-game series with the Indians.
Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona (3-6) suffered his third straight loss, surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits over four innings as the Indians fell for the fourth time in five games.
