NEW YORK, May 29 (UPI) -- Josh Thole went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in Sunday, leading a 17-hit New York attack in the Mets' 9-5 victory over Philadelphia.
Thole knocked in two with a second-inning double, capping a four-run Mets outburst that came after New York had also scored four in the first frame against Philadelphia's Vance Worley (2-1).
Jose Reyes collected four hits with a run batted in while Daniel Murphy added three hits and an RBI for the Mets, who avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the National League East leaders.
Jonathon Niese (4-5) earned the victory, yielding only one unearned run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings, walking four and striking out six.
Raul Ibanez hit a solo homer and Dane Sardinha and Ben Francisco each collected two hits and an RBI for the Phillies.
Worley lasted only three innings. He was rocked for eight runs, five earned, on 12 hits as Philadelphia saw its four-game winning streak snapped.
