CHICAGO, May 29 (UPI) -- Ryan Dempster held the Pirates to two runs over six innings Sunday and the Chicago Cubs downed Pittsburgh 3-2 in a game featuring a lengthy rain delay.
Dempster (4-4) recovered after allowing two runs in the first inning, waiting out a 2 1/2-hour rain delay to come back and finish strong.
The right-hander yielded four hits, walked three and struck out five as the Cubs salvaged one win in a three-game series.
Kerry Wood and Sean Marshall each tossed a scoreless inning of relief and Carlos Marmol earned his 10th save for Chicago.
Aramis Ramirez hit a solo homer while Koyie Hill and Starlin Castro each added an RBI in the win.
Lyle Overbay drove in a pair of runs and starter Jeff Karstens (3-4) allowed two earned runs on seven hits in a five-inning start for the Pirates.
