CHICAGO, May 26 (UPI) -- Carlos Zambrano scattered six hits over six innings Thursday and added three hits to a 17-hit attack in the Chicago Cubs' 9-3 win over the New York Mets.
Zambrano (5-2) allowed two runs -- one earned -- and walked two while striking out and three teammates each pitched an inning of one-hit relief.
The offense was also a team effort as three players -- Zambrano, Kosuke Fukudome and Tony Campana -- each had three hits. Fukudome and Carlos Pena also hit home runs for the Cubs.
Mets starter R.A. Dickey left in the third inning with a foot injury and his replacement Pedro Beato (1-1) gave up four runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings in taking the loss.
Jose Reyes doubled and Chicago made two errors on the play, allowing Reyes to score and give the Mets a 1-0 lead in the third. An inning later Pena hit a two-run home run and Koyie Hill got an RBI on a ground out before Zambrano delivered a run-scoring single for a 4-1 lead.
New York got a run in the fifth but Alfonso Soriano double in two that put the Cubs ahead for good. Chicago added singled runs the next three innings, with Fukudome's home run coming in the eighth and making the score 9-3.
