BALTIMORE, May 24 (UPI) -- Adam Jones belted a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday, capping a rally that gave the Baltimore Orioles a 5-3 win over Kansas City.
The Orioles trailed 3-2 heading into their final at-bat but began a comeback when J.J. Hardy hit a one-out double off Royals closer Joakim Soria (3-1). Pinch-hitter Felix Pie then lashed a double down the third base line to score Hardy with the equalizer.
After Soria struck out Robert Andino, Jones pounded an 0-2 pitch over the center field wall, handing the O's their third straight win in the first of a three-game series against Kansas City.
Alfredo Simon (1-0) earned the victory with a scoreless top of the ninth.
Royals rookie Danny Duffy went 5 1/3 innings in his second major-league start, yielding two runs on five hits.
Alex Gordon had a solo homer among his two hits while Jeff Francoeur and Billy Butler each had two hits and an RBI for Kansas City.
