CONCORD, N.C., May 22 (UPI) -- Carl Edwards held the lead on final 10 laps Saturday, claiming the $1 million prize at the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Edwards' previous best finish in the All-Star event was fourth in 2006.

His car was the first off pit road after a required mandatory four-tire pit stop prior to the final segment, followed by Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle, Mat Kenseth and David Reutimann.

By the time it was over, pole-sitter Busch came in second, Reutimann ended in third, Tony Stewart was fourth and Biffle rounded out the first five.

Edwards wrecked his car after the event as he was beginning a celebratory post-race burnout, apparently hitting a manhole cover. The driver got out of his No. 99 car, ran over to the flag stand and grabbed the checkered flag.
