MIAMI, May 21 (UPI) -- The Florida Marlins announced Saturday they have placed pitching ace Josh Johnson on the 15-day disabled list due to inflammation in his right shoulder.
The team said the designation was retroactive to May 17 when Johnson was struck on his pitching arm by a line drive in a game against the New York Mets.
Johnson (3-1) had a 1.64 ERA in nine starts. He will miss Sunday's start against Tampa Bay. MLB.com said Johnson's daunting fastball had dipped to about 91 miles per hour in his last start.
The Marlins picked up the contract of right-hander Jay Buente from Triple A New Orleans to fill Johnson's spot on the roster. Buente had a 1.94 ERA in 10 games for New Orleans and made eight relief appearances for the Marlins last season.
