PARIS, May 20 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki will open play in the French Open against a competitor twice her age, Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm.

Danish star Wozniacki is 20, Date-Krumm 40.

The women's draw for the Grand Slam event, which begins Sunday at Roland Garros stadium in Paris, was announced Friday.

The top-seeded Wozniacki holds the No. 1 ranking in women's tennis despite having not won a Grand Slam.

Second-seeded Kim Clijsters of Belgium, reigning Australian Open and U.S. Open champion, will begin play in Paris against Belarusian Anastasiya Yakimova.

Clijsters, the tournament's runner-up in 2001 and 2003, hasn't played at Roland Garros since 2006.

Defending French Open champion Francesca Schiavone of Italy, the fifth seed, will go against U.S. teenager Melanie Oudin in the first round.

Last year's runner-up, Australian Samantha Stosur, seeded eighth, will play Czech veteran Iveta Benesova.

Seventh-seeded Russian Maria Sharapova, who would achieve a career Grand Slam with a victory in the French Open, will take on Croat Mirjana Lucic the opening round.

Russia's Vera Zvonareva, the No. 3 seed, plays Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the fourth seed, opens against Czech Andrea Hlavackova.

China's Li Na, No. 6, plays Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.

Former French winner Serena Williams and her sister, former runner-up Venus Williams, are both out of this year's event because of health issues.

It is the first time in the Open Era, which began in 1968, that there are no seeded American women in the draw.
