PITTSBURGH, May 20 (UPI) -- Lyle Overbay's solo homer touched off a six-run sixth inning Friday that launched the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 10-1 blasting of Detroit.
Neil Walker had a career-best five RBI, two of them on a double in Pittsburgh's big inning. He hit a three-run homer in the eighth to finish off a third straight win for the Pirates.
Jeff Karstens (3-2) coasted through six innings to get the win. He allowed a run on three hits without a walk.
Detroit has lost four in a row after a streak of seven straight victories.
Pittsburgh sent 10 men to the plate in the sixth to break the game open. The Pirates already had produced two runs and had loaded the bases when Garrett Jones doubled in two more off reliever Brayan Villarreal.
Walker followed with his two-run double. Overbay, who had hit the first pitch of the inning for a homer, ended the frame by flying out to left.
Brad Penny (4-4) took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits with five walks over 5 2/3 innings.
