PHILADELPHIA, May 19 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi hit three home runs in a game for the first time in his 17-year career Thursday, powering the Colorado Rockies to a 7-1 win over Philadelphia.
The Phillies called on Kyle Kendrick to make an emergency start after Joe Blanton experienced soreness in his right elbow prior to the game.
Kendrick (3-3) allowed a three-run homer to Giambi in the first and a two-run shot in the third before the Phillies turned to their bullpen.
Giambi had a two-run homer in the fifth and equaled his career best with seven RBI.
Colorado won for the third time in four games and the Phillies suffered their sixth loss in seven outings.
The win went to Jhoulys Chacin (5-2), who gave up a run on four hits in seven innings. He struck out nine.
Giambi had only one homer for the year prior to Thursday's outburst.
