MIAMI, May 18 (UPI) -- Marlon Byrd snapped a tie by leading off the eighth with a homer Wednesday, boosting the Chicago Cubs to a 7-5 victory over Florida.
Chicago rallied from a 5-3 deficit to tie it in the sixth on a two-run shot by Reed Johnson and then took the lead when Byrd hit his second homer of the year to left off Edward Mujica (4-2).
The Cubs added a run later in the eighth on a fielder's choice grounder by Jeff Baker that brought home pinch-runner Tony Campana and Chicago held on to end a three-game losing streak.
Hanley Ramirez hit a solo homer for Florida in the first and the Marlins took a 5-3 lead with a four-run fifth that was highlighted by a two-run double from Greg Dobbs.
Jeff Samardzija (3-0) worked the sixth and seventh innings to get the win, allowing a hit while striking out three. Carlos Marmol came on with two away in the eighth and closed out the game for his ninth save.
