ARLINGTON, Texas, May 18 (UPI) -- Texas Rangers outfielder, Josh Hamilton, last year's American League MVP, will begin a rehab assignment in the minors, the Rangers said Wednesday.

Hamilton will be heading to Class AA Frisco as he works his way back into major league shape, MLB.com reported. He has been taking live batting practice with the Rangers since last week.

The three-time all-star has been out since suffering a non-displaced hairline fracture of his right humerus bone April 12.

Hamilton was batting .311 with seven RBI before getting hurt.

He was examined by team physician Keith Meister Wednesday. An X-ray computed tomography scan indicated significant healing, and the Rangers cleared Hamilton to play, MLB.com said.
