PITTSBURGH, May 9 (UPI) -- Neil Walker doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Monday and the Pittsburgh Pirates went on to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1.
After Garrett Jones drew a lead-off walk from Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (2-2) in the eighth, Walker lashed a hit over first base and down the right field line, chasing Jones home to break a 1-1 tie.
Lyle Overbay and Ryan Doumit each added RBI doubles off reliever Hong-Chih Kuo to complete a three-run rally and the Pirates hung on to take the first contest of a four-game set between the teams.
Jose Veras (1-1) was credited with the win after tossing a scoreless top of the eighth and Joel Hanrahan picked up his 11th save as Pittsburgh went above .500 at 18-17.
Billingsley was charged with three runs allowed on seven hits over seven innings. Juan Uribe drove in the only run for the Dodgers, who lost for the fifth time in six games.
