
ISTANBUL, Turkey, May 8 (UPI) -- Red Bull-Renault's driver Sebastian Vettel won this third Formula One title of 2011 Sunday with a. 8.8-second victory at the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul.
Vettel covered the 58-lap, 192.3-mile race in 1 hour, 30 minutes, 17 seconds, taking first ahead of RBR teammate Mark Webber with an average speed of 129.9 mph.
Vettel already claimed Formula One wins in Australia and Malaysia this season and, with three wins in the last four races last year, has won six of the last eight races on the circuit. It was his 12th overall Grand Prix title.
Fernando Alonso, driving for Ferrari, was third 10.1 seconds behind Vettel while McLaren's Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton was a distant fourth, 40.2 seconds back of the leader.
Vettel, with 93 points, has pushed his driver's lead to 34 points over Hamilton. Webber is third with 55 points. Jenson Button, a Hamilton teammate, is fourth at 46 points and Alonso, with 41 points, is fifth.
The next stop on the 2011 Formula One calendar is May 22 when the Spanish Grand Prix will be run at Montmelo, Spain.
