MLB: New York Mets 4, LA Dodgers 2

NEW YORK, May 8 (UPI) -- A two-run single by Justin Turner snapped an eighth-inning tie Saturday and brought the New York Mets a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In addition to the Dodgers losing for the sixth time in seven games, the 30-game hitting streak of Andre Ethier came to an end just one shy of the franchise record set by Willie Davis in 1969.

The Los Angeles right fielder went 0-for-4 with a walk. He flew out twice, grounded out to second and then struck out swinging in the eighth.

The Mets survived a last-minute pitching change to win their third straight.

Chris Young had been scheduled to start, but he had trouble getting loose prior to the contest and Dillon Gee was called on to open the game on the mound.

Gee worked 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, and did not figure in the decision.

Los Angeles rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to get the score tied in the sixth and it was still knotted heading into the bottom of the eighth.

Jason Bay drew a walk to open the inning against Mike MacDougal (0-1) and one out later Jason Pridie hit a grounder to first. Los Angeles first baseman James Loney went to second with his throw, but he misfired for an error.

That left runners on first and second and Ronny Paulino then drew a walk to load the bases.

Turner followed with a liner to center that brought home both Bay and Pridie.

Tim Byrdak (1-0) picked up the win with one inning of relief and Francisco Rodriguez worked a perfect ninth for his ninth save.
