MLB: Los Angeles Angels 6, Cleveland 5

ANAHEIM, Calif., May 8 (UPI) -- A two-run double in the eighth by Erick Aybar put Los Angeles in front Sunday and the Angels held on to down Cleveland 6-5.

Los Angeles won for the fourth time in five games and gave Manager Mike Scioscia his 1,000th career victory.

Cleveland scored twice in the top of the eighth to take a 4-3 lead, but the Angels quickly regained the advantage in the bottom half of the inning against Rafael Perez and Joe Smith.

Howard Kendrick doubled with one out in the eighth against Perez and after Hank Conger struck out, Perez was relieved by Smith.

Mark Trumbo greeted Smith with an infield single and Peter Bourjos also had an infield hit that drove in Kendrick.

That brought up Aybar, whose double to left delivered both Trumbo and Bourjos.

The Los Angeles comeback made a winner out of Fernando Rodney (2-1) even though he surrendered the lead in the eighth.

Jordan Walden came on in the ninth to collect his sixth save, but not without some drama.

Walden gave up consecutive one-out doubles to Grady Sizemore and Asdrubal Cabrera that brought the Indians within a run, but he then struck out Shin-Soo Choo and Carlos Santana to end the game.
