MADRID, May 8 (UPI) -- Petra Kvitova defeated Victoria Azarenka in straight sets Sunday, winning the Madrid Open for her third championship of 2011.

Kvitova, the No. 16 seed at Madrid, took a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 decision from Azarenka with three second-set breaks.

Kvitova lost her serve three times in the match but still won 64 percent of the points on serve. She finished off four of the seven break-point situations she had against Azarenka, who had lost just one set before Sunday.

Kvitova won previously this year at Brisbane, Australia, and Paris and is 25-5 on the year. Her only other WTA champion was at Hobart, Australia, in January 2009. The win in Madrid was her first on a clay court, however. She'll move to a career-best No. 10 in the rankings when they are updated Monday.

Azarenka, who was also seeking the third championship of 2011, will still improve her world rankings to a career-high No. 4.

Kvitova collected about $887,000 for winning for the Madrid Open title while Azarenka earned nearly $444,000 as the runner-up.
