SEATTLE, May 7 (UPI) -- A two-out single by Brendan Ryan in the ninth inning scored Adam Kennedy from third Friday to give the Seattle Mariners a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Seattle's Felix Hernandez (4-2) went the distance for the second time this season and for the 15th time in his seven-year career. He gave up two runs on five hits while striking out six.
Matt Thornton came on in the eighth for the White Sox and remained in the game to start the ninth, getting Justin Smoak on a liner to second for the first out of the inning. Jack Cust then singled and Kennedy was called on to pinch run for Cust.
Jack Wilson singled Kennedy to second and he moved to third on a fly ball to center by Michael Saunders. That brought up Ryan, who singled to center on a 1-0 pitch.
Thornton fell to 0-3 in relief of Phillip Humber.
Chicago tied the score at 2-2 in the seventh on a solo shot by Carlos Quentin. The White Sox lost their third straight and have dropped eight out of nine.
