CHICAGO, May 3 (UPI) -- Francisco Liriano hurled the fifth no-hitter in Twins history Tuesday, giving Minnesota a 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Liriano (2-4) induced Adam Dunn to line out to shortstop with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, completing the 123-pitch gem and eking out a close win over the White Sox.
Liriano, who entered the game with a 9.13 ERA and whose job in Minnesota's starting rotation was in danger, overcame six walks and struck out two to rack up the Twins' first complete-game no-hitter since 1999.
The closest the White Sox came to a hit was in the seventh inning, when third baseman Danny Valencia fielded Carlos Quentin's sharp grounder behind the bag and made a long throw to first for the out.
Jason Kubel's solo homer in the fourth was the only run of the game and the Twins broke a six-game losing streak.
Edwin Jackson (2-4) took the hard-luck loss for Chicago, allowing only Kubel's homer among six hits while walking one and fanning two.
