OAKLAND, Calif., May 2 (UPI) -- Hideki Matsui bashed a game-winning homer in the 10th inning Monday and the Oakland Athletics walked off with a 5-4 victory over Texas.
Rangers reliever Darren Oliver (1-3) came on to start the bottom of the 10th and Matsui jumped on his first pitch, sending it into the second deck in right field.
The clout handed the A's their third win in a four-game set with Texas.
Oakland had tied it up in the eighth when Josh Willingham connected for a solo shot off Arthur Rhodes.
Grant Balfour (2-1) got credit for the win with a scoreless top of the 10th. Five A's relievers combined for four innings of shutout ball after starter Brandon McCarthy yielded four runs (none earned) over six frames.
Michael Young netted three RBI with a two-run double and a sacrifice fly for the Rangers, who lost for the sixth time in eight games.
