SAO PAULO, May 1 (UPI) -- Rain forced the postponement of Sunday's Itaipava Sao Paulo 300 IndyCar race after 14 of its 75 laps.

The race will be resumed Monday at 1 p.m.

A series of crashes marked the first eight laps. In one, Dario Franchitti made contact with Helio Castroneves, which triggered a multicar pileup.

Another crash involved Tony Kanaan, Danica Patrick and Simona de Silvestro.

Ryan Hunter-Reay was also involved in an incident in which he was run off the street circuit and crashed into a tire barrier. He was able to continue.

Pole sitter and defending champion Will Power led when the race was called for the day, followed by Team Penske teammate Ryan Briscoe, Takuma Sato, Graham Rahal and Franchitti.
