ESTORIL, Portugal, April 30 (UPI) -- Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina held off Pablo Cuevas 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) Saturday to advance to the finals of the Estoril Open in Portugal.
The eighth-seeded former U.S. Open champ will face second-seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain in Sunday's final.
Verdasco had to complete his suspended quarterfinals match against Kevin Anderson before facing Milos Raonic in the semis. Verdasco beat the seventh-seeded Anderson 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 6-3 and then advanced to the finals when Canadian Raonic withdrew with a back injury after the first set.
Raonic also had completed a quarterfinal match that was suspended Friday night due to a rain delay and gathering darkness.
Verdasco will play in his second finals of the year Sunday. Del Porto won his eighth career title in February at Delray Beach.
