ESTORIL, Portugal, April 30 (UPI) -- Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain cruised past Germany's Kristina Barrios to win the Estoril Open in Portugal Saturday.
The resurgent Medina Garrigues converted half of her 12 break points in the 6-1, 6-2 victory in the title match.
The win was her first WTA championship since 2009 and improved her record in finals to 10-6. It was also her ninth win on clay, tying her with Venus Williams for the most career clay-court titles among active WTA players.
The victory also was the high point of a recent comeback by Medina Garrigues, who earlier this season had lost 10 consecutive first-round matches and faded to No. 92 in the world.
The match was the second finals of Barrios' career. She lost to Maria Sharapova in Strasbourg, France, last year.
