Montoya qualifies first in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va., April 29 (UPI) -- Juan Pablo Montoya won his second Sprint Cup pole of the year Friday by qualifying first for Saturday's 400-lap race at Richmond International Raceway.

Montoya traveled a lap in 128.639 miles per hour. It was the seventh pole of his Sprint Cup career.

Regan Smith was second fastest at 128.382 mph, the best qualifying effort he has ever had on the Sprint Cup circuit.

Clint Boyer had the third-best qualifying time, followed by Kasey Kahne and Mark Martin. The rest of the Top 10 included Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano and Paul Menard.

Edwards leads the season-long points race by five over Jimmie Johnson, who qualified 30th. Dale Earnhardt Jr., who had the fastest times during the practice session, qualified 24th.
