MLB: N.Y. Yankees 3, Chicago White Sox 1

NEW YORK, April 27 (UPI) -- Robinson Cano's three-run homer and Bartolo Colon's eight-inning effort Wednesday brought the New York Yankees a 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Cano hit his home run in the first inning, his sixth of the season, after which Colon (2-1) scattered seven hits and struck out six.

Mariano Rivera, who had blown his two most recent save opportunities, retired the White Sox in order in the ninth. It was Rivera's eighth save.

Chicago had won the opening two games of the four-game series, but the loss Wednesday was the White Sox's 11th in 14 outings.

Mark Buehrle walked Derek Jeter to open the first inning, then struck out Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira.

Alex Rodriguez, however, singled Jeter to third and Cano followed with a homer to right. Buehrle (1-3) settled down to throw shutout ball the rest of the way, eventually giving up six hits over seven innings.

The only Chicago run came on a single by Adam Dunn in the sixth.
